Rob Zombie is a scary mofo. As a director he reimagined Halloween and transformed Michael Myers into an incredibly frightening force of evil. House of 1000 Corpses was his directorial debut. Upon first viewing you will probably ask yourself “what the f*^k am I watching?” It is a carnival sideshow run by maniacs and inbreds. If you could imagine Alice In Wonderland (but replace ‘Wonder’ with ‘Terror’!) meets the Texas Chainsaw Massacre you might be able to scratch the surface of understanding what this movie is about. It’s scary. It’s got some great make up and effects. The score is done by Mr. Zombie himself — which adds a great deal to the sense of ‘fucked up’ that you’re already experiencing with the visuals. Some of the camera work is well done too for a rookie director. There are also some laughs, as creepy clown Captain Spaulding is a vulgar piece of work. The movie is over 10 years old now, so it may not have the same pop it did when it was originally released — but it’s still worth checking out!
