I have never read the book that the movie is based on, but I remember seeing this movie in the theatre when I was a teen and loving it. It was suspenseful, chilling, and cerebral. Hannibal Lecter (menacingly portrayed by Sir Anthony Hopkins) is a great villain and movie monster. He’s smart, he’s calculating, and he’s a deranged cannibal. And he’s not even the real killer in the movie…Buffalo Bill is! But Lecter’s jailbreak scene alone is the standout of the film. He revels in each deadly swing of the baton, and all the while grinning from ear to ear while doing it. Buffalo Bill is quite the piece of work too. This movie won the Best Picture Award at the 1992 Academy Awards, a feat not regularly accomplished by Horror Movies.
