Ok! My Favourite band ever is rumoured to be going on tour again in 2016. Looks like I’m going to have to save up for a down payment on those tickets though! Hoo-ha concert tickets are pricey! But oh the memories of some great road trips going to see Pearl Jam all over North America. Those memories inspired this playlist…

Ten Songs That MUST Be On My iPOD for a PEARL JAM Road Trip!

PEARL JAM – Album: Lightning Bolt – Track: Mind Your Manners

This is the newest single that PEARL JAM has just released off of their upcoming album LIGHTNING BOLT which drops sometime in September. I like this tune, it’s reminiscent of some of the more charged tunes from VITALOGY back in the day. I’m looking forward to picking up the new album when it comes out!

PEARL JAM – Album: Backspacer – Track: The Fixer

This is a fun upbeat track. A departure from some of their more somber and melancholic songs in their repertoire. The Fixer has a contagious guitar riff and a head bopping worthy drum beat. Although not one of the greatest rock tracks of all time — it’s probably not even one of Pearl Jam’s best — it’s fun and is perhaps the best track on this album (gotta represent as much as the catalogue as possible, y’know?)

PEARL JAM – Album: Riot Act – Track: I Am Mine

I love this song. I must have listened to it about 300 times in a row when i first picked up this album over 10 years ago! I even went and saw that movie I AM SAM because this song was used in the promo reels for it. The song is a classic! The movie…not so much.

PEARL JAM – Album: LIVE From Philadelphia, PA September 1, 2000 – Track: Baba O’Riley (Live)

Pearl Jam reintroduced this classic THE WHO song to a younger audience. Not a cut track on any of their studio albums, the band reserves to play this classic from the rock vault at live shows — usually closing out the evening’s show! Picture this: 30,000 screaming arm flailing fans – the band thrashing around on stage – and the house lights are 100% on all the while! It’s quite the sight to see.

PEARL JAM – Album: Binaural – Track: Nothing As It Seems

I wasn’t a huge fan of BINAURAL. As far as I’m concerned it was the band’s weakest effort to date (as I said in my opinion BINAURAL LOVERS!). This track, as well as Light Years, are probably the best cuts on the album.

PEARL JAM – Album: Yield – Track: Wishlist

I was backstage at a vendor at a Pearl Jam show in Montreal years and years ago. As I inebriatingly walked though the curtain to go back to my floor seat, the music picked up and bright white lights shone directly at me. I was so drunk and high at the time that I thought that it was all for me — like I was some professional wrestler making his entrance to the ring! It was a cool moment for me — even if I wasn’t in my right frame of mind. I always remember that everytime I hear this song!

PEARL JAM – Album: Vitalogy – Track: Better Man

Another one of my lip sync favorites. Better Man is perhaps one of Pearl Jam’s most respected ballads. It’s also kind of sad if you squint your ears and really listen to the lyrics. This is most certainly one of my top 10 favorites from the band amongst their hundreds of recorded songs.

PEARL JAM – Album: VS – Track: Dissident

VS is probably my favorite Pearl Jam album. It was their sophmore release, and they honed a lot of their sound since their debut with TEN. My top 5 PJ songs are all on this album — Elderly Woman Behind the Counter…,Daughter, Indifference, Rearviewmirror, and this awesome track! I’m listening to the song right now as I’m typing this, and I have to keep stopping for some extreme air guitaring.

PEARL JAM – Album: Ten – Track: Alive

When I was in high school, most of my friends were all in the same classes and we were all in the same extra-curricular events; so when TEN was released it wasn’t long before we all got hooked on it and had each purchased a copy of it. ALIVE became the ipso facto anthem of our rag tag group of angsty teens. I still, to this day, cannot listen to this song in its entirety and not sing along!

Whenever I feel low, I listen to this song. Eddie Vedder clearly exorcised a lot of his own personal demons in this song; and you can feel the emotion in every powerful bellow. This song was my first real surprise fan favorite off of TEN — Alive, Jeremy, Even Flow, and Black were all getting heavy air play when this album came out in 1992; but Release was the first song that I “stumbled upon” when I purchased the album all those years ago that I fell in love with. Yeah, I’m the guy in the crowd at the concert that always had his lighter in the air whenever the band started this audio gem!
